The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) includes a regulation that provides parent counseling and training.
Specific types of related services are defined in Regulation, 34 C.F.R. 300.34, Subsection (c)(8)
“(i)… assisting parents in understanding the special needs of their child; (ii) Providing parents with information about child development; and (iii) Helping parents to acquire the necessary skills that will allow them to support the implementation of their child’s IEP or IFSP.”
Parent training in Healthy Relationships and Human Sexuality may be provided by your child's school district as a related service in their Individualized Educational Plan (IEP). This type of training should be offered by a trained Sexuality Educator, and may provide parents with Sexuality Education in their child's sexual development that should be age appropriate and medically and scientifically accurate,
Parent Training may be provided individually or in small group settings.
